Trained, compassionate volunteers powering everything we do

Big Friends is the volunteer backbone for Sanadhalayam and Chirak. Members receive orientation on empathy, boundaries, hygiene, privacy and safety. Roles span kitchen & room prep, escorts, logistics, content, fundraising and safeguarding.

What is Big Friends?

A structured, consent-first volunteer network that supports patient families with practical, non-medical care. We keep pathways humane, safe and organized while coordinating tightly with hospital social workers and Sanadhalayam staff.

Objectives

  • Build a reliable, trained volunteer base.
  • Ensure safe, respectful guest interactions.
  • Launch city chapters to run micro-projects & drives.

Roles

  • Care Home Support: Kitchen help, meal service, room turnover.
  • Patient Companion (non-clinical): Hospital navigation & escort.
  • Logistics: Transport, in-kind pickups, supplies.
  • Fundraising & CSR: Events, proposals, donor care.
  • Story & Media: Consent-led documentation for campaigns.
  • Training & Safeguarding: Orientations, refreshers, compliance.

Onboarding & Training

Apply → Orientation → Role match → Shadowing → Active service

  • Empathy & boundaries, hygiene, consent & privacy

Code of Conduct

  • Respect dignity, culture and consent at all times.
  • Be punctual and dependable; communicate absences early.
  • No medical advice; escalate concerns to coordinators.
  • Follow the two-volunteer rule for sensitive interactions.

Activities & Annual Cadence

  • Quarterly: Volunteer orientations; donor open house; impact snapshot.

  • Monthly: Chapter meet-ups; skill workshops; hygiene & infection-control refreshers.
  • Festivals/Observances: Special meals at Sanadhalayam; themed wish days; awareness booths.
